Privacy & Student Data

This is a plain-language summary for teachers and schools. Replace the bracketed items and have your own counsel review before relying on it.

Short version: Math Generators is a classroom practice tool. We ask teachers and students not to enter full names or other identifying student information — nicknames, initials, or codes only. We never sell student data or use it for advertising.

Your responsibilities (teachers & schools)

You are solely responsible for compliance with FERPA, COPPA, and all applicable student-privacy laws. By using assignments and classrooms you represent that you have the authority and any required consents to use this service with your students. You agree not to enter students' full names or other personally identifiable information, and to use initials, nicknames, or codes only. Math Genius provides the Service (the Math Generators product) as a tool and does not act as the educational agency of record.

Accounts, children, and consent

Math Generators is math practice for elementary and middle-school students, used under the direction of a parent, guardian, or teacher. Accounts are created and controlled by adults (age 18 or older) — parents, guardians, teachers, and school staff — who use the Service to provide practice to the children in their care. By creating an account you represent that you are 18 or older.

A child does not create their own account or give us personal information directly; children use the Service under the supervision of the account-holding adult. We are built to avoid collecting personal information from children: we ask that no student's full name or other identifying details ever be entered, so the only data tied to a child's use is the classroom information the adult enters (nicknames/codes, answers, scores) and the masked login/security information described below, which we process solely to operate and secure the Service — a use permitted without separate parental consent.

The adult who sets up and runs the account is responsible for any consent required for the children they supervise: a parent or guardian consents for their own child, and a teacher or school provides the required parental or school consent for its students. If we learn that a child under 13 has created an individual account or provided personal information to us directly, we will delete it.

What we store for assignments

The nickname or code you choose to identify each student.
The student's answers and score for each assignment.
Classroom and assignment details you create (titles, problems, due dates).

We ask that this information never include a student's full legal name, date of birth, email, or other directly identifying details.

How we use it

Only to provide the Service — letting teachers create assignments and review student results. We do not sell student data, share it with advertisers, or use it for any commercial purpose.

Login & security information

To support the internal operations of the Service — keeping accounts secure and preventing unauthorized access and misuse — we automatically record limited technical information each time you sign in:

a masked (truncated) IP address — we keep only the network portion (for example, 73.12.45.0/24) in your account records and do not retain your full IP address there;
your browser and device type;
the date and time of the login and of recent activity.

We use this information solely to support the internal operations of the Service — authenticating sign-ins, maintaining security and reliability, and detecting and preventing fraud, unauthorized access, and credential misuse. We do not use it to contact you, advertise to you, or build a profile of any individual, and we do not sell it. It is accessible only to our administrators and is automatically deleted from our active systems after 30 days (any residual copies in routine encrypted backups age out on our normal backup cycle).

Separately, our payment processor (Stripe) may receive and retain your full IP address to process payments and screen for fraud, under its own privacy policy; that processing is outside the scope of the account records described above.

Where a student signs in, this technical information is treated as part of the student's education records and handled under our student-privacy commitments above. We collect it only as needed to operate and secure the educational service (a permitted internal operation), consistent with FERPA and applicable children's- and student-privacy laws (including COPPA and state student-privacy laws). The adult who runs the account provides any required consent for this educational use — a parent or guardian for their own child, or a school on behalf of parents where a school makes the Service available to its students.

Security & deletion

Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Teachers can delete classrooms, assignments, and student records from their dashboard. To request deletion of any data, contact us at the address below. For details, see our Data Retention Policy and our Information Security Program.

"As is"

The Service is provided "as is" without warranties. To the extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify Math Genius against claims arising from your use of the Service with student data.
